The Beethoven LifeGems® : three LifeGem diamonds created from DNA-identified lock of hair from composer Ludwig von Beethoven.

New technology allows creating a real diamond with the use of carbon from a lock of hair.

LifeGem, the world’s purveyor of carbon-based memorials, is announcing the creation of three Ludwig Von Beethoven LifeGems®, which will be the first diamonds created from the carbon of a celebrity or historical figure. Each Beethoven LifeGem® will be a certified, high quality diamond between 0.50 and 1.00 carat in weight.

The Beethoven LifeGems® offer LifeGem an opportunity to highlight new technology that captures carbon from strands of hair in order to create a LifeGem diamond. The locks of hair used for Beethoven’s LifeGems® are authenticated and provided exclusively by John Reznikoff, president of University Archives and owning the largest and most valuable collection of celebrity and historical hair. Reznikoff’s collection also includes such figures as Napoleon, Albert Einstein and John F. Kennedy.

Major breakthrough This new technology to create a LifeGem® out of a lock of hair is a major breakthrough. From now not only relatives who have their loved ones being cremated can choose a LifeGem®. Also in the situation of a burial this unique and personal heirloom becomes an option. After the carbon from the lock of hair is collected, purified and graphitized the creation process will be identical as when carbon is being processed from cremated remains. Using a lock of hair also provides the possibility to create a LifeGem diamond in countries where the private possession and/or separation of the cremated remains have been legally restricted.

The Beethoven LifeGems® process In the next six months, Beethoven’s carbon will be collected, purified into graphite, subjected to heat and pressure in a diamond press, and finally faceted into a LifeGem®. After a worldwide tour of museums, the Beethoven LifeGems® will be auctioned online and the proceeds will go towards creating LifeGems® for military and underprivileged families.
